From
looking at the cover, initially I thought this could be really cute. But after
a quick read I found only some of the poems that I really liked. But this book
is a great themed book with cute illustrations that is great for Valentine’s
Day.
Summary:
In this
book it has multiple poems from famous authors and others, it’s meant for
Valentine’s Day. Most of the poems are meant for a person’s valentine or love.
There are many styles of poetry in this book and also the poems range from
common love poems to quite original ones. Like this one that I liked “Oh,
golden heart, be on your way. Go, speed along to sweetly say that on this good
St. Valentine’s Day a heart is meant to give away”. An example of a smaller
poem from the book would be “Roses are red Violets are blue are you for me? I
am for you!” This book does not have any particular order or storyline so there
is no specific ending.
I don’t
think I’d personally use the WHOLE book in the classroom because not all of the
poems are great. I would probably only use this around Valentine’s Day for a
quick poem or two to read to the class and maybe for the kids to pick out a
poem if they need it for fun.
The
appropriate grade level I believe for this book is 1st -3rd
grade because this does have longer poems and vocabulary that are meant for the
upper level readers. But I believe this book could be great for all ages as
well.
If I was
to use this book, I would use it as a read aloud and activity. I would
do this assignment on or around Valentine’s Day. First, I would pick a few of
the best poems from it. Then after I read it, I would have them go and create
their own poems for their very special valentines.
HAVE FUN READING!💙-Lacy
