Dreamers

Dreamers
Title: Dreamers

Age Group: 6-8 year olds

This inspirational book of an immigrant and her child was a wonderful read and very realistic of the struggles most immigrants go through, i would definitely recommend this book.
Summary:
This book goes through the journey of a woman and her baby who become immigrants. At first everything was new to them and there were so many things they didn’t know, they made many mistakes. But then they found a library it was unbelievable and amazing to them because they did not need to speak. Books became their language and home and lives; they learned to read, speak and write from books. And someday they will become something they haven’t even imagined but right now, they say they are stories, two languages, Lucha, resilience, are hope, they are Love Amor Love.

I would use this book in the classroom because it is a great example of an immigrants experience and how books and reading can help people.

I believe the appropriate grade level for this book would be 1st-3rd grade. This book was easy to read, with a big font and little words to a page. I believe this is a great book for younger kids in understanding how other people life stories differ.

I believe this book could be used in a unit about other people’s cultures. An activity I would have the students do after the story is read, is the students will go home and ask their parents about their heritage and will come back and share a little bit about what they found out.

HAVE FUN READING!💙-Lacy
